My Experience in Materials Patents
The following are examples of materials patents I have helped secure. Click any patent number to view the full record on Google Patents.
Granted: Patent No. US 8,110,314: A method for keeping the electrolyte inside a direct carbon-air fuel cell chemically stable over time. A porous separator lets a different electrolyte chemistry exist on each side of the cell, one around the anode and one around the cathode, which stops the buildup of carbonate salts that would otherwise degrade the cell’s performance over time.
Granted: Patent No. US 11,708,213 (patent family, also covering US 2023/0303313): A process for turning liquid coffee concentrate into a dehydrated, single-serve soluble coffee product through freezing and controlled thermal reduction, then protecting it with a dissolvable edible coating made from materials like cellulose, pullulan, or pectin. It’s a food product on the surface, but the coating chemistry and dehydration process are genuine materials science.
Granted: Patent No. US 12,202,746 (patent family, also covering US 2020/0338500): A water reclamation system built around an orifice cavitation device, using a sharp-edged output opening to trigger cavitation at low operating pressure as part of a water treatment process.
Pending: Application No. US 2021/0308162: A set of newly discovered compounds that inhibit TLR4, a receptor involved in the body’s inflammatory response, for use in treating infectious and inflammatory disorders.
Granted: Patent No. US 9,676,917: An aqueous-based manufacturing process for deconstructing and recycling post-consumer carpet, including both residential and commercial broadloom. The water-based approach eliminates airborne particulate emissions while recovering higher quality and greater quantities of recyclable material, a materials-reclamation process at its heart.
