A transportation patent might cover an invention for a car, bicycle, boat, airplane, or other way to move people or goods. It may improve the safety, durability, efficiency, usability, or comfort of the transportation method, or the manufacturer’s ability to produce it. The patent attorney who can help you secure that patent (and profit from it) should have some experience with similar inventions, and should be able to understand the principles that make your invention go.
I’ve helped other inventors secure their transportation-related patents. A few examples of those include a bicycle trailer that helps propel its own weight when pulled by a cyclist, a gauge that helps the above-mentioned bicycle trailer to match its propulsion speed to that of the bicycle pulling it, a bicycle with automatic transmission (rather than manual gear-shifting), a three-wheeled scooter that is maneuvered by the back wheel (rather than the front wheel), and a waterproof window system for small boats that can keep passengers dry.
It’s crucial that your patent attorney understand the inner workings of your invention, the relevant prior art, and the critical concepts of product design before you sink any more money into further development, hiring, production, and marketing. The earlier we zero in on exactly what is unique about your invention and how it differs from any alternatives, the sooner you can protect those unique elements and profit from them.
