It’s helpful for your patent attorney not only to have some background in mechanical engineering, but also to have some experience in the industry in which your invention will be used.
Some machines or mechanisms might become products for retail consumers, but more often they’re used in manufacturing, in packaging or processing, in construction or the trades, in medicine or healthcare, or in another specialized setting. Your patent application is in an even stronger position if your patent attorney also has some experience in the end user’s industry. He or she will be more familiar with the existing technology in your field, with the jargon, with the mindset of the people who will ultimately use your invention, and with the hard realities that make your space a competitive one.
If your invention is a machine or mechanism, I can probably help you get your utility patent (or defend it or prosecute it). Not only do I have an engineering background (both my degree and prior line of work), but I also have experience in mechanical and machinery patents. A few examples include a window cleaning machine, a masonry veneer machine, a film sealing and wrapping machine, and a neonatal fluid tubing heater, to name a few of many.
Do you have an idea or invention for a machine or mechanism? If so, contact me, James Yang, for a consultation. I work with inventors throughout Orange County, Los Angeles County, and throughout California and the US, and am confident I can help you. You can schedule a free initial consultation now.
